Chelsea started this season on a high note because of their exquisite summer transfer window. Six high profile players joined the club, and everybody expects big things.
When Eden Hazard left London and Chelsea were dealt with a transfer ban, nobody expected good things. Maurizio Sarri also left, and Roman Abramovich seemed doomed, at least in the next season. But what happened was quite opposite.
Finally, Chelsea tested its youth
Chelsea’s youth teams are dominating English championships for quite some time now. But apart from John Terry, Ryan Bertrand, and Robert Huth nobody really got the chance in the first team. And there were great players like Nathan Ake, Patrick Van Anholt, Jack Cork, and Declan Rice, who made great Premier League careers.
Frank Lampard took over, and he decided to put his faith in youth. That made sense and Chelsea finally capitalized on their youth system. In defence, Reece James and Fikayo Tomori emerged, and Andreas Christensen got his minutes extended. Also, this season Kurt Zouma returned to the club.
Scottish wunderkind Billy Gilmour started playing as an anchorman, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek was one of the best midfielders in the team before his injury. Mason Mount played in a variety of positions at the heart of the pitch and impressed. Callum Hudson-Odoi drew interest from Bayern Munich, and Tammy Abraham bagged 14 Premier League goals.
All these players drastically improved not only the performance on the pitch but also managed to get Chelsea’s incredible squad value. The club from London had the most valuable team in the world in the 2018/19 season!
How much are they valued?
Chelsea’s squad is valued at €477 million. And that was before all the signings they made, Also, their young players are getting valued more and more on the market, and there are new kids ready to jump in.
Marc Guehi and Ethan Ampadu are getting more and more minutes at Sheffield United and Swansea. They could challenge Silva, Zouma, or Rudiger for the place in the team soon.
Alongside Barcelona and Manchester City Chelsea was the only team with a squad value of more than €400 million. And they have done that when they finally let their kids play!
