We all expected UEFA to reschedule finals of its club competitions, but now that is decision is official. The end of May is not the date for finals anymore.
UEFA didn’t decide about a new date yet, because officials want to wait and see how will the situation play out. For now, the good news is that no one is thinking of canceling Champions League or Europa League at this moment.
“UEFA has formally taken the decision to postpone the club finals originally scheduled for May 2020.
As a result of the COVID-19 crisis in Europe, UEFA has today formally taken the decision to postpone the following matches, originally scheduled for May 2020:
Women’s Champions League Final
Europa League Final
Champions League Final
No decision has yet been made on rearranged dates. The working group, established last week as a result of the conference call among the stakeholders of European football, which was chaired by UEFA President, Aleksander Čeferin, will analyze the options available. The group has already begun its examination of the calendar. Announcements will be made in due course”, reads the UEFA official statement.
We have to wait and see what will happen to these competitions. If football continues at the end of April, it’s safe to say full seasons will be played. If football restart later, we would probably have shortened season, with some kind of Final 4 being played at the end.
